I live in Dublin and in the 80s I saw both of them U2 and Simple Minds up close many times. Finally in the same summer I saw them both in Croke Park and there was no contest Simple Minds were just amazing . Even the U2 rowdies who I had pints with the odd time thought it as well.. Then of course Jim went off with Patsie Kensit and ofcourse she wrecked many a fine band.

j'm also a great u2 fan ...but in time (in my opinion) simple minds became a better band(they always a been a great live band,better than u2(j saw 15 minds gigs and 12 u2gigs since 1984)! and graffiti soul is a very very good cd and should deserved higher chart position!
