Newport All Stars with leader/pianist George Wein. The two main soloists are Scott Hamilton on tenor and Warren Vache on cornet. Recorded at the 1989 Bern Jazz Festival
Your lineup is: George Wein-piano, Scott Hamilton and Ricky Ford-tenors, Norris Turney-alto, Warren Vaché-cornet, Gray Sargent-guitar, Eddie Jones-bass, Oliver Jackson-dums
Yeah. So it is... Can't believe I didn't recognize him. ABSOLUTELY NO DISRESPECT, but if you want to hear him at his best, check out the locally produced Delmark Records release by Jodi Christian, "The Front Line." It is several years old now, but he plays his ass off... Particular attention should be paid to "Willow Weep For Me."
Anybody know who the alto player is? It seems (a little surprisingly) that he's learning this tune on the gig, which is always uncomfortable, but my curiosity never fails to be peaked by someone who voluntarily picks up a clarinet...
