Edinburgh Festivals' Cavalcade 2010 - Full / HD

Tens of thousands of people have lined a route through Holyrood Park for the Edinburgh Festivals' Cavalcade.

The annual parade moved to the park last year because of the need to avoid the tram works on Princes Street.

The Cavalcade was led by more than 150 motorbikes and also included a large part of the cast from The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

There were more than 2,500 participants in the parade and it is estimated that as many as 100,000 watched.

Last year, about 75,000 people lined the route from the Commonwealth Pool to the Meadowbank Terrace entrance.

This year even more turned out in the Edinburgh sunshine to witness the colourful spectacle.

Cavalcade director David Todd said: "The weather was absolutely glorious and it was one of the smoother running parades of recent years.

"I am pleased to be able to present the cavalcade, making use of the space in Holyrood Park and its natural geography and keeping the core spectacular elements of the cavalcade itself as the heart of the day."

One of the highlights was a gigantic inflatable caterpillar, operated by 10 people.

There was an entertainment area for spectators on the green by Holyrood Palace, including bands, dancers, stilt walkers and performers.

The cavalcade first took place in 1976 and is funded by the City of Edinburgh Council and operated in association with Historic Scotland.
