A look back at Doctor Who's popularity during the 24th anniversary of the series.
This is from a 1987 edition of "Did You See".
What I found interesting was John Nathan-Turner's refusal to appear on this programme to answer questions about the waning popularity of Doctor Who at the time. Instead they had to use a clip from him answering a similar question on another programme several months earlier, with his "memory cheats" response (sorry John, the show really did go downhill when you took over).
Don't get me wrong, I loved Colin Baker, he's just the least fan-loved doctor of them all, you can't go very far on a popular forum such as Outpost Gallifrey without finding some sort of Colin Baker-bashing.

e.Ecentricity isn't just ranting and pulling your face. David Tennant is sappy!
And finally,
f. 'I have seen every single transmitted episode of Doctor Who' - erm, good for you?

c. 'Eccentricity' is such an obvious thing to say.
d.Duh, ALL the Doctors bring a unique part to the role.

Sorry this response has taken such a long time, but
a. I'll spell hoever I bloody like. Whats important is what I'm trying to say is understood.
b. What do you mean 'the much-hated Colin Baker.' I have his autograph, arsehoul.

Certainly by the McCoy era, I don't feel the kind of awe, wonder and mystery I feel when watching something like "Deadly Assassin." I feel the same about the new show. They don't have the time to develop the story arcs with the new format, and they just aren't as engaging.
Both Tennant and the show are a bit too over the top for my tastes, too self-consciously 'clever.' They need to stop poking fun at the old show and focusing on romance. If Tennant could just hold back a bit, I'd watch more.

JNT killed classic Dr Who.

Ever heard of freedom of spell check?
I have seen every single transmitted episode of Doctor Who as well and I loved all of the doctors, including the much-hated Colin Baker, but I do agree that the JNT-era was of a generally lesser-quality than that of the previous doctors. Sylvester McCoy was my least favorite and if you claim that Tennant's character is "overacting" whereas it's simply a unique portrayal, then you can say that McCoy did the same. It's just different takes on 'eccentricity'

I'm glad someone has sense in this world. I was over moon when I first found out on the series' return, now I believe in the phrase; "Be careful what you wish for."
