Rafael Ferreyra plays the great Austin organ (IV-137) at Hartford Cathedral, CT (USA).
The Cathedral Organ contains more than 8000 pipes and was designed by Austin Organs' Tonal Director, Richard Piper, and Frederick L. Mitchell, Vice-President. It enjoys ideal placement in its own loft high on the rear wall containing the Great, Positiv, and Pedal divisions, flanked by chambers containing the Swell, Choir, and Solo divisions. The largest case pipes (from the 32' Sub Principal) were installed in the gallery by cranes before the roof was completed! Orpha Ochse describes the instrument as "among the landmark instruments of its time" ("Austin Organs"). Its four-manual drawknob console also controls the Sanctuary Pitch division near the altar and the Blessed Sacrament Chapel Organ. This complete two-manual instrument has its own console, with a third manual controlling stop combinations on the Gallery Organ. In charge of this notable instrument as organist and Music Director is Dr. Ezequiel Menéndez who kindly gave permission for the making of this video.
New to large organ music, became a fan since hearing it "live" in York a couple of years ago at the cathedral. It takes your breath and gives you goose bumps. Quite an experience!!

Es la más bella interpretación que he escuchado! Ese órgano es impresionante! La grabación está realmente muy bien. Se escucha cada registro. Admirable...
Gracias, Rafael, por compartirlo.

This organ is an absolutely gem, and a real thrill to play. I think this organ can certainly sit along side any instrument of any other builder of that time, if not surpass it in power, and beauty. Not to mention, it's one of the most striking "modern" facades I've ever seen, especially when you realize the biggest pipes are 42' long from top to bottom.
