Flinders University, in conjunction with Monash University and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), have developed two new anti-corrosion coatings for magnesium and aluminium based alloys.

These new coatings have proven to be extremely effective, both in providing significantly improved anti-corrosive properties over chrom VI based coatings, as well as a range of nonchrome based coatings.

The new technology is more effective at protecting magnesium and aluminium alloy surfaces than chrome based products and leading non-chrome based products. It is also non-toxic, and eliminates the use of solvents in coating applications.

No primer is required for painting, and reapplication does not require the removal of the previous coating. Application is uniform, well adhered and pore free, and coated surfaces enable excellent adhesion for additional coatings.
