Pola Negri - Rudolph Valentino

Moving, deeply moving. The sense of loss so evident in her voice. It seems she is shedding tears as she sings. More like a prayer vocalized in song that she hopes one day will be answered when they meet again. Sigh, I feel for her anguish.

@NightinGal89 Yes, after Rudy and his wife split up, Rudy became involved with Pola. Till the day she died she said that Rudolph Valentino was the true love of her life and she loved him like no other.

so, they were in a relationship?

Rewelacja, dziś już nie ma takich indywidualności aktorskich!!!

Thank you! Truly, there has never been anyone like him. She's so lucky to have had him in her life - in whatever way. Maybe Pola would have made him happy; Rudy seemed to always have a "sadness" about him; many people have commented on it.
I just love him.

@flon5flon have read this as well, and it hurt her career. Journalists thought her grief was an act. She married a few months after his death, and she claims it was this marriage that hurt her career. Her book and the accounts of others describing her relationship with Valentino are diametrically opposed. She claims he pursued her, but others say it was the other way around. Everyone who knew RV said he pined for Natacha while she claimed they were engaged. It's too bad--she had talent.

@4MaryAnna Yay! Good to know ;-)

@ConfusedSponge That's the exact picture throughout this that I also didn't think was Valentino. Just wanted you to know you're not the only one who thinks so. :)

Pola Negri Berlin 1936 = Liza Minelli - "Mein Herr" Cabaret film
One question I always had is if she "embellished" her relationship w/Rudi, though I would never forget him either - who could? They say some of his last words were: "...tell Polita I think of her". Wow!
The way Valentino envelops a girl, walks towards her, takes her completely in his arms...wow! And so handsome. A true legend forever. No wonder.....

My grandma had a round tin in her sewing room my whole life with a photo on the lid of beautiful Pola Negri in a turban. It is now displayed in my home. Until today I didn't know who she was. Finding your tribute to her and Valentino floods my heart with love for my now deceased Italian-American grandmother. I imagine she was a teen in Boston when she acquired the tin, or perhaps it was my great grandmother's? My grandma loved Valentino, I imagine she was fond of the "gypsy singer" too.
