Teaching Artist Jessi T Walsh stars as Miss Comfort in "As Deep As She is Tall: A Peepshow in 3 Acts," performed at HPAC on July 22, 2007. The performance was viewed by the audience through three tasseled peepholes in the fabric of a large circular red curtained structure. It was filmed from above, looking down into this curtain, which is reminiscent of the hole she inhabits of late.
Miss Comfort's lot begins in darkness as we find her making an "Atlas shrug" of a heavy mass of bread dough to complete her party attire. After a brief bake in the sun, the act is finished with a flourish, as Miss Comfort embellishes her new shrug with perfectly formed slices of white bread and bites autographs into the slices, tossing them out the peepholes to the peepers.
Credit for support with sound design and engineering is heartily given to Patrick J Scott. Music samples are taken from the best and most expensive record I've ever bought: "Burlesque Uncensored: Recorded on-the-scene by Emory Cook," circa 1954.
The projection of this performance is currently on view at HPAC through September 16, 2007. Look for the shiny Red Curtain straight ahead as you enter the building. What will you see through the peephole?
