A 747 flies one of the most insane (and horribly designed) approaches in the world: Honk Kong's Kai-Tak Airport (retired). I'm sure ATPs wax nostalgic over this approach, but jumping jimmeny christ...
I don't understand how people just say something that isn't true. "The sock is the other way...?" That's just not the case. You can see with your eyes the wind is coming from the right so the sock is blowing left. I am more constantly blown away at the silly comments people make than the videos that are posted.
He can't, approach/airport rules, he has to make the IGS approach. Too dangerous for aircraft to be landing one way and take-off the other in a 1 runway airport. Planes can't take-off the other way since they would just crash into buildings or terrain before building sufficient altitude.
Actually, this particular airports has high-rise buildings a few feet away from the aircraft on approach. High-Rise buildings cause gust to accelerate causing high-speed winds. Anyways, these types of landings were common at Kai Tak. There are a few videos of this type of landing. So, you can't really depend on the windsock to tell you everything.
no crosswind.. he over shot on the final turn.. stop the vid at 3 seconds, in the lower left corner you'll see a windsock, barely off the pole.. very light wind the overshot was pilot error. He should have gone around again

the sock is the other way, if anything he would have been pushed with the runway, not away from it
