Dresdner Kreuzchor - Im schönsten Wiesengrunde 2006
Ein deutsches Volkslied - Text von Wilhelm Ganzhorn um 1850
(mit Bildern von der Elbe bei Dresden)

Im schönsten Wiesengrunde
Ist meiner Heimat Haus,
Da zog ich manche Stunde
Ins Tal hinaus.
Dich mein stilles Tal
Grüß ich tausendmal!
Dich mein stilles Tal
Grüß ich tausendmal!
Da zog ich manche Stunde
Ins Tal hinaus

Müßt aus dem Tal ich scheiden,
Wo alles Lust und Klang,
Das wär mein herbstes Leiden,
Mein letzter Gang.
Dich,mein stilles Tal,
Grüß ich tausendmal!
Dich mein stilles Tal
Grüß ich tausendmal!
Das ist mein herbstes Leiden,
Mein letzter Gang.

Sterb' ich, in Tales Grunde
Will ich begraben sein,
Singt mir zur letzten Stunde
Beim Abendschein:
„Dir, o stilles Tal,
Gruß zum letztenman!"
Singt mir zur letzten Stunde
Beim Abendschein.

Translation:
In the most beautiful valley
there is my home.
I went there many times.
I greet thee my beautiful
and quiet valley a thousand times!
I went there many times.

If I had to leave this valley
and it's delight and tone
this would be my last journey.
I greet thee a thousand times my quiet valley.

If I die I want to be burried in this valley.
Then people shall sing in the evening's sunset:
"I greet thee my valley for the last time"

  • unsere wunderbare deutsche Musikultur!^^

  • Thank you for posting these words. I am an old Lutheran (a 4th generation Norwegian) and somehow I think that this melody has been used in a hymn. I cannot recall which hymn it might have been. I think that the song comes from a Romantic literary tradition rather than a Lutheran spiritual tradition, if I am not mistaken.

We Americans owe a great deal to our German friends.

  • héél mooi, het wondermooie Dresden

  • @Teigen64 You are a little bit right, because the tune goes back to "Onder een linden groene" by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and his divisions from 1601. Try & Browse this on YT, and ENJOY !!! This original version is better than all "German folksongs", especially sung by church musicians... Sweelinck was indeed a Lutheran composer in A´dam, who wrote divisions on dances, popular songs as well as on Lutheran and Calvinist hymns in the same style, learned by English masters like William Byrd !

  • @Musikmoscher

Hoffentlich wird Sie für ewig erhalten!

  • On youtube I can right nonsense as much as I want but Coventry is a partnercity of Dresden.

  • Coventry is not our partner city but there are close relationships, also to many cities in the US as Columbus our partner city and to Boston as well as NYC. The US are not highly popular here but there is also not any hate because of the bombing, even among people who think politically conservative. The so called neonazi party gets something like 3,3% at elections, much more in the provence, but for several reasons.

  • @Lasseolin The population of Dresden changes frequently, 66 years after almost noone knows one of the maximally 25,000 people who found death. Once a year, every feb 13th, Dresden as a highly symbolic city is used by right and left radicals from all over Europe to grieve and protest against grieve. In fact the bombers didn't hit many military targets and eere also a strike against the Soviet Union which was going to invade but the normal citizen of Dresden has forgiven for already a longer time.

  • @TeunisD I know you're angry. Probably lost a relative during that event…(?) But anger and hatred won't take you anywhere. I feel sad about every sort of war, but I use that sadness to let my tears run. I know I won't change the evil within others, but letting myself feel sorrow is helping me heal. Just let go. Love

  • Thank You American Banks for Bombing the City of Dresden! You got rich with rebuilding didnt you? THanks!

  • Berlin, Hamburg,Stuttgart full of niggers, leftists , muslims, pakis etc.... thank you zionist Federal Republic of Germany

  • @4391deterio Yes, of course I know that and much more about this wonderful city. In a very humble way I contributed, like thousand others, to the reconstruction of the Frauenkirche. When I saw the Frauenkirche for the first time in my life, one year ago, I was close to tears.
