OK, so I'd rather be behind the wheel of the Mach 5, but since that isn't happening any time soon, I guess I'll stick with this Lightning U2 Lowracer. At least this way I'm getting some exercise. Is that Racer X behind me?!

  • How much speed you have achieved???

  • @energeticlear On a flat, under my own power, I've gotten to the low 30mph's, and I'm not a particularly strong rider. I'm sure a strong rider would have no problems hitting the high 40 mph's on a flat, and probably faster.

  • Anyone else thinking about how f*cked you'd be if you fell off one of these things.

You'd tear up a much higher area of your body whilst still entangled in the thing; there would be no way out!

  • @supercooper92 I've fallen on it a few times, but never at top speed. You don't really get tangled in it, kind of a slide out where you eventually slide off the bike as it's heavier than you are. At low speeds, you're so low to the ground that it's like rolling out of bed. At high speed, you would have a good road rash on the hips, but crashing at speed on a standard road bike (much farther to fall before you hit the ground) is a much more hazardous affair (broken bones etc...).

  • @theaesthetics Strike that..reverse it...you're heavier than the bike, so the bike tends to slide out from under you and keep going, while you "slide" to a stop.

  • that looks comfortable as fuck, shame they cost like £1500

  • @chillz27 You can get some very similar bikes for much less, now made in Asia, from Actionbent. You can Google Actionbent to have a look.

    Thanks,

    Joe

  • @iperov

  • Oh man I remember watching speed racer when I was a kid, my dad kept the tapes and played them on our VCR all the time :D

  • I ride a recumbent and I would rather take a spill on my bent than a conventional upright. I spose I could go sliding on some loose gravel and flip sideways. I think the potential is much higher for serious injury riding an upright.
