April 27, 2011: It is with a heavy heart that I report to you that the Norfolk mother eagle was hit by a plane Tuesday and killed. It was determined that the eaglets would be better off raised in a wildlife center rather than left in the nest. Dad would not be able to care for them by himself.

Very sad for Dad, who looks around an empty nest and leaves.

  • i dont understand what happened

  • @luceysissy The mother eagle was flying near the airport and was hit and killed by a plane. The eaglets were rescued and brought to a rehab center in Waynesboro. Father could not raise them by himself.

  • @luceysissy the mother was killed by a plane.......they took the eaglets, this is dad looking for the babies...that are gone, he lost his whhole family...what is so hard to understand?

  • @jacquetee31 I just felt so bad when I saw him in the nest. Eagles mate for life, but next season he may find a new mate. I hope the nest camera will start streaming again in October.

  • Oh my goodness, it breaks my heart to see Papa, pick up the fish he brought for his babies and fly away.

  • @Sierra1947 I felt the same way. This may be the last view of Dad... and the nest... for the time being. We'll see the nest in the fall, when eagles normally return to their nest site, or perhaps even sooner.

  • Dear Mama Norfolk bald eagle: Thank you for the precious, wonderful gift of life you left on this Earth before departing: your eaglets will grow to become magnificent eagles, masters of the skies.

Go in peace, sweetheart, your mission on this planet was accomplished, go to Eagles Heaven to fly eternally with the eagles who preceded you, until you see your loved partner and your babies again someday. May your pure soul be forever blessed. R.I. P. loving Queen of the Sky. I love you, cry for you
