  • @TheBoogieBots808 A, its a grappling match no strikes are allowed and B. its the guy job to pass the guard no sit inside it

  • I don't know who is who but I'm really glad the guy on top won. The guy on the bottom didn't really do anything. He went for a triangle choke once. That was it. I think in a real fight if they were allowed to punch the guy on top would have killed that guy on the bottom within the first 1:30. Just my .02

Please keep in mind they both would've killed me within the first 30 seconds I only give myself that much time because I believe I could out run them for 20 of those lol.

  • @fr0ber Yes, we certainly can say what is favorable. Nothing in the self defense concepts of BJJ EVER teaches pulling guard. In a fight situation, guard is where you may end up and THEN it's great to have a good guard, but should you really opt for it?

That's all I'm saying. I don't think it's a very practical move to pull guard, but it's obviously a tactical choice in tournaments with rules that don't recognize that lack of practicality.

  • @allentate 1. Knew you had a bias :D

    2. It's not really ours to say what IS favorable in 'a' fight, you might say it's "generally having someone in a guard is not as favorable as being on top of them" because you'll have gravity on your side punching and the other guy will have limited or no rotational abilities but having someone in your guard when you know how to sweep, submit and strike from it can make it equally advantageous, especially if you add in 3-point control of his limbs or hips.

  • @fr0ber Ok.

    1. I'm a judo guy, love throws and hate having someone just get away with not fighting me in a standing. There, I said it. It's a selfish reason.

    2. Guard is better than some other positions, but not ideal. In a fight, being is guard is not as favorable as being on top....so people that pull guard should take a negative advantage in acknowledgment of that fact. With just a negative advantage, if they do something useful with their guard, they will easily overcome that.

  • @allentate I just don't understand why people think butt scooting should be banned/isn't "valid" or something like that, was hoping you could shed some light on that.

  • @fr0ber No, which is why I didn't call for a ban of the butt scoot. I said that I don't like it, but it's rather a stretch to say that I'm calling for it.

My point concerning "unless and until" is just that, you have to accept the rules in play now and work with those. If butt scooting is allowed, it's allowed...period. It's within the rules.

Now, there have been organizations that don't allow butt scooting right off the bat (you must make contact and hold it) or they deduct points for it.

  • Wow that was so sick and lol @ the crowd switching "Yea yea come on buddy" to "Oooooo oooo"

  • @allentate Do you have any valid reasons for the banning of butt scooting though?

  • @thmgoodw

I don't like butt scooting anymore than you do, being a judo guy. That being said, Ryan Hall is a stud and unless or until the rules make butt scooting illegal or a reduction in points, he can do it....along with many of the other black belts out there that would destroy me and presumably you too...though I don't know you.
