Having travelled several times on the WHR I decided to try and capture some lineside scenes. Fortunately I picked a beautifully sunny day which showed off the beautiful Welsh scenery to perfection. The locos featured are two of the railways NG/G16 Garretts, numbers 87 and 138.
Locations were; 87 rounding the curves on the approach to Rhyd Ddu and departing from the station.
138 seen just after entering the Aberglaslyn Pass
87 at Cwm Cloch
138 climbing away from Beddgelert Forest and heading for the summit at Pitts Head and finally departing Rhyd Ddu and rounding the curves beneath Snowdon

  • So I suppose this is a "Austin's Heaven? " Sorry Acw -couldn't resist! I though you had friends in high places, but the "Big Man" must have been well bribed to get weather like this!

    Cracking. Diolch!

  • I think my Heaven would be high up on the slopes of Ais Gill on the S & C really, but a glorious day in Wales such as this comes pretty close. Thanks for your kind comment

  • Great, semi professional video. It will be a nice memory of my holiday in Wales, during the dark days of winter. Some scenes are filmed in Rhy Ddu, one of my beloved places. Thank you.

  • Thanks very much, I agree with you, I will enjoy looking at this one again on a cold winters day! It is beautiful around Rhyd Ddu

  • Sorry Austin! I knew your correct name but was confusing you with another railway enthusiast! Think your video got me too excited!! Ken

  • Thanks Ken, I was indeed fortunate to have chosen such a day, makes a real difference to the clarity and, of course, shows off the scenery to perfection. P.S. I'm an Austin, not an Adrian!

  • Wow this video has everything in abundance! Stunning scenery, winding curves, steep grades, 10 coach trains, powerful little narrow gauge Garretts, great photo positioning, sparkling clear quality, and a talented photographer, no kidding this is great stuff, I'm so impressed! My aren't the Welsh blessed with scenes like these? Thanks so much for sharing Adrian, quite a wonderful video and def a fav with me! Ken

  • Merci philippe. J'ai été très chanceux d'être en mesure de film sur une si belle journée
