by Anthony Roberts
(choreography in collaboration with the dancers)

SWING A CLUB: facing cancer is an interdisciplinary dance piece that explores end of life issues. The work was choreographed in 2003-04 and was performed nationally from 2004-06.

Swing a Club: facing cancer is a tender, intimate response and personal tribute to Roberts' brother, Tom, who succumbed to cancer in 2001. The elegant synthesis of movement, video, spoken word and music, all created by Roberts, provides multiple points of entry into the work and facilitates the unfolding narrative, which seeps through the intellect to viscerally engage the audience.

Joining Roberts as performers in the work were St. Olaf College dance faculty Heather Klopchin and Janice Roberts; student members of Companydance; and Billi Faillettaz, retired psychotherapist and active member of the metro Red Cross Stress Team; and Dona Freeman, St. Olaf College Artist in Residence in Theatre.
