John Tillman, Chairman and CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute http://www.illinoispolicyinstitute.org/, a liberty and free market oriented think tank, debates and discusses the issues with show host and executive legal recruiter Jeff Berkowitz. Topics discussed include whether the stock price for free markets, liberty and capitalism is on a sharp decline in America, and, if so, why? Has there been a substantial, bi-partisan supported increase in government spending (and taxes) in the last decade in Chicago, Cook County and Illinois? Is the CTBA's Ralph Martire right when he says the problem is structural deficits? Are Republican candidates who support more limited government losing because they can't communicate effectively?
Additional topics discussed include whether what Obama intends re tax cuts are really tax cuts? Does Obama really intend tax cuts for 95% of the people, 95% of those who pay income tax or neither? Did Obama run more effectively as a populist tax cutter, than McCain and is that why he won? Was McCain hoisted on his campaign finance reform petard? Are there true public goods, that should be collectivized and at least financed, if not provided, by government? Is government spending increasing at a rate faster than inflation? Should it?
Additional topics discussed include whether per capita taxes is a better gauge than Martires measure of per capita taxes divided by state income to determine what is a low cost, state? Do charter schools out perform traditional public schools? Should the legislatively set cap on the number of charter schools in Chicago, the suburbs, and downstate Illinois be removed? Would Illinois parents like more school choice, including school vouchers?
Does Tillman favor more choice for parents in education, including charter schools, education tax credits and school vouchers? Did State Senator Barack Obama favor school vouchers when appearing on Public Affairs, in 2002? Does Obama favor school vouchers now? If he doesnt, how does President-Elect Obama justify choosing to opt out of the public schools, by sending his daughters to a private school, but denying most parents a similar choice? Indeed, Barack Obamas mother and grandparents chose, to send Barack to a private high school followed by private colleges, accepting something similar to a scholarship voucher. Does that make Obamas current rejection of a school voucher policy hypocritical?
Did Barack Obama become President because he appeared on Public Affairs, five times during 2001-2004? To stand and debate politely, while watching the bulldozer of current policy makers ideas push forward, while refusing to review and consider the carnage left on there back trail is not easy. This guy gets it
