  • What simple elegance and swing

  • @gasiraz ....absolutelly correct.I remember listening to this back in 55,with Maynard screaming on top of the band.Fabulous stuff.

  • I think this tune was first recorded in a 10"LP called "Cool and Crazy". It was composed by Shorty Rogers. The arrangement was for a studio big band under his name. These players were among the finest in the so called "West Coast Jazz" style.

  • Nice video

  • A CD called "The Swinging Mr. Rogers", available at EJazzlines dot com.

There are a few of his records available there that have Martians Go Home on them.

  • Does anybody know if there is a CD of "Martians go Home", or any other of the "small big band" of Shorty? I caught up at last with Shellyy Manne at the Nice Festival - did a wonderful brush solo. Need to hear him dropping those dolloar bills on the cymbals. Thanks for all Shorty.

  • Miles and Chet held there horns down like that, too. Drives me crazy but still sounds good.

  • ....Sorry, I was talking about shorty.

  • I hate his embochure but the guy is a legend.
