Sept.2,1983 in Japan SHORTY ROGERS(Flugelhorn) BUD SHANK(AltoSax) JIMMY GIUFFRE(TenorSax) BOB COOPER(TenorSax) BILL PERKINS(BarytoneSax) PETE JOLLY(piano) MONTY BUDWIG(Bass) SHELLY MANNE(Drums)
I think this tune was first recorded in a 10"LP called "Cool and Crazy". It was composed by Shorty Rogers. The arrangement was for a studio big band under his name. These players were among the finest in the so called "West Coast Jazz" style.
Does anybody know if there is a CD of "Martians go Home", or any other of the "small big band" of Shorty? I caught up at last with Shellyy Manne at the Nice Festival - did a wonderful brush solo. Need to hear him dropping those dolloar bills on the cymbals. Thanks for all Shorty.
What simple elegance and swing

A CD called "The Swinging Mr. Rogers", available at EJazzlines dot com.
There are a few of his records available there that have Martians Go Home on them.
