  • That was not much of a martial artist, regardless of which martial arts he takes, his aim and throws were sloppy, and he had no control over distance, I've been taught for the past seven years an effective tip, you don't get within four feet of the guy, or let him close the distances without some sort of strike, otherwise you invite a bunch of grappling that could be avoided.

  • @Pivotdiddyx His name's Jay R. Palmer, and yes, he relied more on athleticism than skill to win. His approach to fighting brought him success until he started running into more and more trained opponents.

  • Who's the martial artist?

    Who's the street fighter?

I always felt martial arts was just a money making venture .. it doesn't really work. Or at least it never turns out in the real world as it does down at the "Doggo" or whatever it's called.

  • @DontPublicMe Martial arts training is only effective if full-contact sparring is included(As in, students actually get an opportunity to apply their techniques against someone who's really fighting back). The problem is, a great many martial arts schools don't do this because it would shatter the tender egos of their students if they got beat up ever day.

  • got any more fights of jay r palmer? i know he's not really a skilled fighter but he's fun too watch.

  • @crazyman9able Yeah, Real Fighting 9.

  • well just i know that the small guy win and the big guy loses

  • @ThePinkMan

    Sounds true.

So basically, a "great many" m.a. schools just pander to the dollar then. I knew of one m.a. trainer telling potential customers that they won't need to do the "hard" training, e.g. punching hard surfaces to harden knuckles, and so on.

And, in any case, punching ever harder surfaces to harden knuckles, and learning to punch in a way that doesn't dislocate wrist bones and cause pain in hand bones after punching an opponents skull--these can be done without a teacher.
