Memoria del Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín. El poeta nicaragüense Ernesto Cardenal lee uno de sus epigramas más conocidos en el contexto del XV Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín (2005).
Ernesto Cardenal Granada, Nicaragua, 1925. Hizo estudios de Literatura en la Universidad de México, y después en la Universidad de Columbia en Nueva York. En 1957 ingresó en un monasterio trapense en Kentucky, Estados Unidos, donde su maestro de novicios fue el célebre escritor místico Thomas Merton, y estuvo ahí hasta 1959. Después estudió para el sacerdocio, primero en el monasterio benedictino de Cuernavaca, México, y después en un seminario en Antioquia, Colombia. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1965. Fundó una pequeña comunidad en el archipiélago de Solentiname en el lago de Nicaragua. Durante su permanencia allí se integró al Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, y al triunfo de la revolución fue nombrado Ministro de Cultura. Además de escritor se ha dedicado también durante toda su vida a la escultura. Entre sus libros están: Epigramas; Hora 0; Salmos; El Evangelio en Solentiname; En Cuba; Canto Nacional; Oráculo sobre Managua; Cántico Cósmico; Telescopio de la noche oscura; Vida Perdida (Memorias Tomo I); Ínsulas Extrañas (Memorias Tomo II); La Revolución Perdida (Memorias Tomo III).

    Sólo hay un tipo de ti, por lo tanto no lleva tilde.

    Ese hombre es el mejor representante del hombre latinoamericano lleno de aciertos, de gloria, el mejor poéta vivo de la América. Un hombre de valiente, y con la dósis necesaria de contradicción que todo ser humano tiene.
