CSX 9028 has a bad traction motor taken out and replaced with an "idler" axle so it can make it into the shops. Repaired at Princeton, IN.

  • Must have been a massive failure for this to be done in the field.

  • @Huttworker Yes it was. It totally locked up and had a nice flat spot on the wheel. I wanted to get a close up of the wheel but got busy and forgot. :(

    Thanks

  • @randomguy652 Yeah I really do not like the look of european trains. They look really wimpy.

  • there is a bit of a red smudge on your like bar, lol

  • That happened to an Amtrak train once by my house. They had it hauled into a CN train yard to have it fixed after putting an idler on it. The nearest Amtrak Garage was in Chicago and the train was at the Pontiac station.

  • i only liked doing traction motors after 4pm. if you know what i mean.

  • Y'all know that unstoppable movie? Well I had a train haulin 20,000 tons coast on me and I caught up with it because them throttles don't move out of position. It's impossible, the cab don't vibrate and shake that much. And yes I'll admit that it was a pretty dumb move I've been kickin my self in the ass for letting it happen. But by bein smart and usin my wit I got control of my train in under a minute. I just thought I'd share some of my experiences with y'all.

  • They replaced the traction motor with a idler axle, un-powered.

Notice the "screech" noise when they lower the locomotive...that is because the winches are lowering using their brakes on the drum...!

  • It's amazing how little time it takes to replace a traction motor. A U.P. went down just a block or two from my hose and they had it repaired and going again in a couple hours... After they got the new motor that is.

  • nice sidewinders
