@ganeshkali In large parts of the US, masonry buildings are for people with a death wish. I know you like to bitch about your fog, but over here we have real problems -- earthquakes.

Why cut the budget if there are more fires in the city?

... the roof and exterior are sheet-steel. I have a small barn built in this manner.
I live in a rural area- These types of steel structures are used everywhere.
Some have wood frames(as mine does) some steel.
I live in western New York State, USA.

smoothbore2004 and mabas21 both are correct idk wat u brits do over there but as far as both departments im on this is nothing. this isnt even a bon fire compared to how we roll... id rather be stuck in structure with "wood" and "plastic" then in one with concrete and steel beams at least we no were getting out not getting screwed

i jsut read the original comment but every class i have ever taken they have stressed how plastics these days burn hotter and produce more darker smoke. but its cheaper thats why it happens. i agree though brick and concrete would be nice but here in ny its hard to find houses like that and they are being bult everywhere. we just have to be smart and safe out there. it is jsut property.

I did not say that "everything is built in the highest quality there and there is absolutely no use of wood there in Britain". Far from it in fact. But atleast when buildings catch fire here they are generally not just a little pile of wood ash and lumps of congealed plastic after the fire is put out.

I`ll drink to that!
When will the Americans learn that wood and plastic burn very well and stop using those materials when building residential properties. Nearly every time we see house fires in the USA the property is totally destroyed yet here in Britain we build with bricks or concrete and very few properties are totally destroyed.

Actually this building was made of steel so I don't really know what you are talking about. We do use brick, but not everyone can afford brick due to the fact it adds 20 percent to the total cost of the structure. This way here in America we have options so people can own a house

Just which bit of the building was made of steel. Was it the nails or screws holding the WOODEN beams together and holding the PLASTIC sheets to WOODEN beams.
It cannot have been steel beams, as they were burning far to well and the walls cannot have been steel sheets has you can see the flames through them.

Oh I gotcha you, everything is built in the highest quality there and there is absolutely no use of wood there in Britain. You are so full of shit!

Hey Bone I understand what your saying but like mabas said we do this day in and day out. My old captain always said you can effectively be safe but you can be too safe to be effective. Plus there really is no reason to wear an airpack while your outside. We consider this a big trash fire, Well open through the roof, like I said a big trash fire.
