Jamie reads the Christmas story from Mac's Bible. Rachel leaves in the middle of Jamie's reading to go to the library, and Mitch follows her and asks if she's okay; he's sure she's been thinking about Mac a lot. Rachel says yes, especially today, but the memories are mostly happy now. Mitch says that's good. Rachel says she thinks she's ready to get on with her life now. Mitch noticed that Rachel hadn't opened her present from him, so she does; Mitch's gift is a journal, which he tells Rachel he hopes will help with her journey both forward and back at the beginning. Rachel asks how Mitch always knows what she needs and tells him she loves the journal. Jamie finishes reading from the Gospel According to Matthew, and then he wishes everyone a merry Christmas before leaving for the hospital to check on some of his patients. Ada promises to save him a plate of seconds, and Matt puts away Mac's Bible. Sam and Amanda help Alli open her stocking. Josie tells Olivia how wonderful it is to see Sam and Amanda back together again, and Olivia agrees. Evan asks Ada to tell Rachel he said goodbye because he really thinks he should be leaving. Rachel returns then and thanks everyone for coming and she's about to make an announcement when they hear carolers outside: John and Sharlene, Stacey and Derek with Kyle, Ronnie, Zack, Reuben, Jessie, and Mrs. Lawrence. Everyone heads outside and they all stand on and around the Corys' terrace and sing "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Deck the Halls" before exchanging hugs and handshakes and merry Christmas greetings. And so ends Christmas Day 1989 in Bay City.
Just watched Constance Ford (Ada Hobson) in "A Summer Place" earlier this evening. Before any more of the pass away, I really wish they would do a reunion special or even a two-hour movie reunion that would tie up a few of the loose ends from the final season..
