Just a clip of one of my flyback transformers making some sparks. It uses a 555 + MOSFET driver and is ballasted by a ignition coil ballast. Input is 12v at around 5 amps, output is around 30Kv DC.

You can solve that problem with diode and 2 watt resistor, look here:

that could be a bit dangerous for the mosfet. it is a 60N06 and only has a V(ds) of 60v and as it is there's a lot of hv spikes going into the snubber circuit... dont need more turns just more current - i can put 50 AMPS into it...
