if they used the trick padlock to get out, they would of had to get a step ladder to pull her out. she has to use the lock and hoist herself in order to get out.

simply put, the trick padlock is a means for her to get out, but not for them to get her out. hence smashing the glass

Let's say that smashing the glass is the best option. (that's what I think, because it's a huge tall tank and they'd have to pick her up out of it which would also take lots of time.) If there's a little slot for her hand to fit through and release the lock, then wouldn't water pour out of the tank? If not, is there a pocket of air in the top of the tank? Of course it's hard to think straight when you're drowning, but in normal shows wouldn't water pour out of the slot?

@robertsom ok once again i shall say tht she couldnt get out cuz the knot tht alfred tied could not be undone underwater so she couldnt fit her hand thru the trick padlock to escape and the trick padlock can only be opened from the inside!
