From what I've been told, he told the then Governor General that if she didn't suspend parliament, he was going to go directly to the Queen. That has never happened in Canadian history.

@Craigmw45. What you have said is untrue, any leader of a coalition government would be an elected member of parliament, so no they were not unelected. Canada Has a rich history of coalition governments. In our system we don't elect our PM we elect MPs and the party or group of parties working together forms the government and then that party or group of parties chooses the PM. this was not an attempted coup or even underhanded, its just how our system works, who ever has the most support is PM.

You could also say this was an done as response to an attempt to remove an elected leader from power, and replace him with an unelected coalition backed by a party dedicated to breaking up the country.

Let me get this straight: The GG is an overlord but its the PM that uses the useless Queen's powers. Huh? The Queen and her rep are checks against unconstitutional acts by the PM. If you think Harper's a sneaky little bastard now, imagine what he'd be like if there were no head of state.
