Egyptian Obelisks were built before 3300 years.
Many of the 33 Obelisks were taken to other countries where they were set up in the city squares as a symbol of power.
They appeared in London, Paris, New York, Istanbul and Rome. There are 13 Obelisks in Rome alone, even inside the Vatican.
Some obelisks were given away by the Egyptian Rulers a political gifts. But many were forced-shipped away by historical figures like the Emperors of Romanian Empire.
Obelisks served 3 main functions; power & knowledge symbol, religious symbol and public shadow clocks.

Using the shadow of the upright obelisk against the sun it was possible to divide the day into time zones & points and to calculate time almost as exact as the clocks we use today.
The Obelisks have been substituted by modern towers for decorating the cities like Cairo Tower and Eiffel Tower of Paris. In Egypt the minarets of mosques and church towers replaced the obelisks as religious symbols all over Egypt.

Egyptian Obelisks were "copied" in some parts of the world. But it is always easy to recognize the original true Egyptian obelisk by being made of one piece of granite stone while "copies" would be built up of multiple layers of stones.
One of the interesting pictures on this video shows an "unfinished" obelisk at its base in Aswan. In fact that one was left "in situ" as the engravers discovered a line of impure rock in the main body and thus judged it will not stand more cutting and transport and more important, the test of time. This picture show clearly how an obelisk would be made out of a single piece that weighs about 18 tons in average.

Although the obelisks in Paris & London were named as "Cleopatra's Needle" they were actually misnamed as they were built by the Egyptian Pharaohs like Thutmose III & Ramses II between 1000 to 1300 years before Queen Cleopatra ruled Egypt. In fact she was the first ruler to transport obelisks from the older capital of Egypt in the south, now "Luxor", to her new capital Alexandria on the Mediterranean where they taken from to Europe.

The most recent "copy" of Egyptian obelisks is that built in Washington, USA, seen on the last picture in this video.
