William Booth (10 April 1829 -- 20 August 1912) was a British Methodist preacher who founded The Salvation Army and became its first General (1878--1912). The Christian movement with a quasi-military structure and government founded in 1865 has spread from London, England to many parts of the world and is known for being one of the largest distributors of humanitarian aid.
This is an incredible find. Recording technology was in its very early stages in William Booth's day, and the fact that somebody spent the considerable sum that would have been required to record him preaching, is a testament to how great a man he was.

@crywalkr Indeed. I was given the record to make a digital copy of it and did the best that I could with the recording to clean it up. Even with the crackling and hissing, you can still make out his voice now.
