Paul Robeson Students call for May 1st HS Student WALKOUT

Join us on May 1st as we stand in solidarity with the Occupy movement and workers everywhere.

Dear New York City,

We, the students of public education, are here to inform you about the injustice that is taking place in our school system:

 The privatization of our school system
 The budget cuts
 Lack of appropriate leadership
 Malicious closings/phasing out of schools against the communities' wishes.
 Cell phone policies
 Overcrowded classes & abuse of SAFE rooms
 Over policing of our schools and the criminalization of our youth

We feel that these issues are setting our students up for failure, and we DEMAND a change! We believe that trying to control our schools is just another symptom of the blatant racism in our country similar to the government's response to the senseless killing of Trayvon Martin.

Because of this, our first action will be a mass student walkout on May 1st at 12pm to Fort Greene Park. We will be holding teach-ins, teen summits & other peaceful events.

Please add your name to our letter and support us in our struggle for our education.

I did not see children in this video. I saw Americans standing up for what they think is right. If they are wrong, they will face the consequences for it. If our founding fathers didn't have courage to do this, and many after them, who knows what bigger mess we may be in. I say, "Let 'er buck". It's about time people woke, young AND old!

Again, it comes down to MY rights as a parent. I don't want teachers or their unions or any OWS movement telling my children they can simply walk out w/o my knowledge! Absurd! You want to fix the school systems? Go after the School Boards, teachers and administration and most importantly --the UNIONS. These folks need to STAY AWAY from my children. And it is exactly why you will not ever see my child in an urban school We moved for that exact reason.

After reading the legal procedures for a walkout if the school is really going to give you a hard time there are plenty of others ways to go about doing this without getting yourselves in trouble & I still stand behind you 100 %
