  • The Baladi Progression is a specific musical arrangement that is traditionally played as a special segment of every full length, classical bellydance routine & is what leads up to the drum solo. A beladi progresson typlically starts with an instrumental taqsim then drums join in with accents leading to a sequence of 4 & 2 beat rhythms that build the energy up to a drum solo. The music & am dancing to here is an example of the typical structure of a beladi progression.

  • This is wonderful! Great dancing. Great music. However, I was taught these rhythms as "Saidi" for the slower parts, then it slips into a faster "Maqsoum", then back to the original "Saidi". I don't know the last bit, but it's got a great groove! When you speak of "baladi", what are you referring to? I'm still an amateur drummer, so I could be totally wrong. Thanks for sharing this, BTW!

  • @rmcdaniel423 Hi! In this case the term 'Baladi' is referring to a particular arrangement of music often called a "Baladi Progression" rather than speaking of the baladi drum rhythm itself.

  • dang! not bad for a shy girl-:) Wonderful. Really like the wavy move when you come up from forward bend

  • @CarrieKonyha That's good to know. So . . . if you, as a dancer, asked your drummer to give you a "Baladi Progression", what would you expect? What does that mean? There are lots of great drummers on youtube who can do amazingly technical solos, but they often lack musicality/danceability. I want to learn how best to accompany dancers! Who better to learn that from than the dancers themselves! What's a "Baladi Progression"?

  • Beautiful Carrie

  • Beautiful Carrie! You are an amazing dancer! An absolute Goddess.
