A brief look at Alice's Restaurant which was made popular by Arlo Guthrie's song of the same name. The name has changed, but it is literally around the back, just a half mile from the railroad tracks. Imagine that!

  • 46 Thanksgivings ago Arlo went to visit Alice......Took a red VW microbus shovels and rakes and implements of destruction......

  • Stockbridge Mass is the best-kept secret outside of Cape Cod. There were THOUSANDS of tourists in this tiny town ystrdy. Besides Alice's it was the home of American painter Norman Rockwell, who painted "The Runaway" using Officer Wm ("Obie") Obanheim as a model. Clean, orderly and interesting little village. Alice and Ray's church/home is 6 miles down the road too, and is now the Guthrie Center for performing artists. Wonderful place to visit, but I wouldn't want to direct traffic there! See it!

  • 5 members of our car club drove from CT to find this original ALICE's RESTAURANT ystrdy (02Oct10). It was GREAT! We had a delicious pizza called OBIE's REVENGE. Alice's (now Theresa's) is decorated with memorabilia of Arlo and Alice, including a recent photo of Alice Brock, Arlo, and present-owner Theresa. The waitstaff are always willing to share the history of the place. We took pics, sang a verse and left. Visited the church 6 miles away (now the Guthrie Cntr), too. Wonderful time! Do it!

  • A bunch of us are driving 100 miles to see this tmrw AM. I was a teen when this song rocked us all, but I never knew it was a true story. I'm a Howdy Doody baby boomer who has lived embarrassingly close by and never knew it. It's a silly life-goal but I'm finally gonna visit the restaurant and take a picture of it. Later I will find Alice Brock in P-Town Cape Cod and have her autograph it. Then it goes on my "I love me" wall for the remainder of my natural life.

    THANKS ARLO, for the memories!

  • i thought it was never the name of the restaurant just the name of the song. lol! *LOVE* that song
