Sen. Sanders defends Social Security and its strong legacy. Lately, there have been rumors circulating about Social Security's sustainability and Sanders emphasizes that it has a $2.6 trillion surplus. Other Senators, such as Barbara Boxer (D-California), champion Social Security's merits along with him.

  • Sherrod Brown, we're coming for you in '12... Josh Mandel!!!

  • I think we should come out and say it out loud "The Republicans don't care about you, they only care about the wellbeing of their economic masters." I think class warfare rhetoric is not being used when it can help the most.

  • Senator Sanders, I feel like you are one of the few elected officials remaining who legitimately care about the future well-being of all Americans. I can hear the passion in your voice - it's not cheap political rhetoric diluted into talking points; you're ensuring we remain prosperous. Hell, I would move to Vermont just so I could brag to my friends that you were my Senator.

  • theres a new caucus in town created by sanders yay you senator

  • SS is separate from the Federal Budget, thus not part of the deficit or national debt.

  • I'm venezuelan, and I say: Well done!!!

  • Hands down best politician I've ever seen. Go Berine!

  • Sen Sanders is a true fighter, I wish we could clone all three of you guys. Social Security can be great! Expand and tweeked, Leave it for working people only, make a flat percentage withholding, no caps, this will make it stronger than ever. Republicans are out of touch on almost everything that the middle class want and need, ever since Reagan.
