An encyclopaedia of weapons of destruction during WWI.
The First World War saw the fighter and bomber aircraft over the battlefields for the first time, adding the new weapon of the 20th century to the arsenal. It was also the era of the fighter 'ace', men such as Freiherr Manfred von Richthofen and the American, Eddie Richenbacker - to name just a couple.
Each chapter gives a technical overview, footage of the aircraft general action and scenes of actual combat, often incorporating wing and gun cameras.
Included in this film are two bonus chapters - on Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, and the American Ace, Eddie Rickenbacker.
OK? This is Volume 1. The WAR started in 1914,not 1916 with the now famous Fokker DR7,the first were mono-wing (that's single wing) aircraft. The rules of engagement were written in 1915 by a 15 year old German ACE. When I was a young man I spoke with a German Pilot who's job it was to take photos of enemy lines, and supplies. He had to buy his own plane, and provide protection for it. It ran on petrol&castor oil.He was once chased by a English Pilot,he dove left, and the other plain lost it's wing
