This palm is also called as the Burmese fishtail palm,Clustering Fishtail Palm.
This palm grows well in tropical rainforest regions.And is seen growing in India and other south-east Asian countries.This clustering palm, which can form a clump up to 8 m(24 feet) high and 4 m(12 feet) across at the top.
Each trunk produces flowers for several seasons, starting from the top of the trunk and moving downwards, but then dies after its final seeding.
The fruit contains crystal oxalate so avoid contact with the red fruit produced by this palm. It contains oxalic acid which is toxic when ingested, and contact with skin may result in severe chemical burns.
Propagation is by seed which usually takes 3 - 4 months to germinate.These Fishtail palm can also be propagated by division of clumps and separation of suckers from the parent clump.
This palm thrives in full sun to partial shade.
