I didn't think about telling you this at first but I'm related to the singer and guitarist of Eat the feeling, they were older cousins of mine, the singer I haven't seen in years. the guitarist I've seen about 7 years ago. I won't be able to meet with the singer now, he died in 2007.
We have a CD of the band their genre is hard to describe, but like I said some critics said Joe Mantello sounded a little bit like Eddie Vedder, Dan Mantello (guitarist) on many occassions used a wa-wa petal on his guitar, and their was a flute player who also played the hermonica. Some of the songs are slow but some songs would change to a faster tempo "Saucepan Jam" is one of those songs that did that. And a couple of songs were over ten minutes long.
Been a long time so I can't remember what Eat the Feeling sounded like either, but it sounds about right. I remember they had a flute. They were probably at least on the same page politically. I remember him introducing a song called "A message to the closed minded." He said it was originally "A message to the closed minded conservative", but thought that it might be closed minded to say that. Being somewhat conservative, I appreciated that consideration.
Eat the feeling was a great band. Some critics said Joe Mantello (lead singer of Eat the feeling) had a little Eddie Vedder voice in him. I actually seen him once but I faintly remember that.
I love these guys. I used to sit in a friends house and listen to them practice. My friend had a very special VW bus out front of his house. I have their album and some old recordings from Bumpershoot.
