Sahir Ludhianvi's beautiful poetry, Roshan's music and Mohammed Rafi's immortal voice come together to form this gem of a song - presented with the famous Norwegian painter, Edward Munch's art work.

Movie: Chitralekha
Year: 1964
Song: Man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare
Singer: Mohammed Rafi
Music: Roshan
Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi

man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare
vo nirmohi, moh na jaane, jinkaa moh kare
man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare

is jeevan ki chaRhati Dhalati
dhoop ko kisne baaNdha
raNg pe kisne pahre Daale
roop ko kisne baaNdha
kaahe ye jatan kare
man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare

utnaa hi upkaar samajh koi
jitnaa saath nibhaa de
janam maran ka mel hai sapna
ye sapna bisraa de
koi na saNg mare
man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare

  • The melodious philosophy of life.

    Chanader Bhalla

  • Indeed nice song and great melody. The painting put is equally good - reflects the mood of this song.

  • Very touching song----pragmatic with the philosophy of the very business of LIFE. Bhagvati charan's book--Chitralekha has come alive in the beautiful rendering of the song--my all time favourite.

  • nice paintings...who's the artist ? they match his most excellence

  • Shocking!!!!! Can anyone actually sing this well.

  • "Utana hi upkar samaj le , jitana sath nibha de".

This one change my attitude toward my close ones.

  • Can somebody give me the English meaning of this wonderful song? Although i know Hindi, the meaning eludes me.

  • @kuckudk And in the same film - "Chitralekha" the poet has penned another song that is by lata "Sansar se bhage phirte ho...." presenting completely diffrent version of philosophy by saying in one line ".......Har yug main badlate dharmo ko kaise adarsh banaoge........" That is the class of writers and philopsophical productions Indian Film industry used to have and NO MORE.

  • @Rmehtacpa
