Teenagers have always found ways to distance themselves from their parents, finding comfort in their friends and confiding in anyone/anything else other than their parents.

Growing up in the 21st century, technology has played a crucial role in allowing me to maintain connections with my friends anytime and anywhere. Strangely I found myself finding comfort in connecting with not just my friends but strangers on the internet. The internet has provided a platform that can reach any audience, from any medium I choose. The more time I spent on with these new media forms, the less interested I became in anything else, like talking to my parents. Not talking to my parents greatly affected my Korean skills and I further buried myself in technology/(use of)English.

But technology isn't a bad thing; technology here to stay and I believe new media forms can empower individuals to do whatever they want. ...especially if it is to reconnect with their parents.
