I took this video clip during my language study trip to Mexico in 2006. I spent 3 days in Mexico City -- what a fascinating experience. The remaining 2 weeks were spent in Cuernavaca where I studied Spanish at two different language schools. I also did side trips to interesting places like Taxco and Tepoztlan.

I am actually a travel writer and have written more than 700 articles from a variety of different locations. My articles are published at http://www.travelandtransitions.com. Check out my Mexico articles which can be found at http://www.travelandtransitions.com/stories_photos/mexico_2006.htm.

Recently I have also been compiling my content into FREE travel ebooks about destinations such as Havana, Mexico City, Sicily, New York City, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and many others. The books also have useful travel info and practical travel booking tools. Feel free to check them out at http://www.travelandtransitions.com/ebooks.html

  • Love it!!

  • @MrDoobie6

Oh well, what of it anyway.

  • @Chichiri520 It's not a part of Mexican culture, though. It's a form of religious extremism that has been present in Catholicism and other religions for centuries. Even today, self-flagellation and parades such as this are not isolated purely to Mexico.

I agree. People really need to open up their mind and educate themselves. In this day in age when we have the internet to learn about other's customs, it is a great shame that people still remain willfully ignorant.

If you understood, you would see it's significance. Although self-flagellation is extreme to me, it is a practice that dates back to antiquity and it symbolizes one being repentant of their sins.

It is such a shame that we have windows to a variety of resources to learn about one another's customs yet still remain ignorant.

  • flagellation is not funny ..couz they only hurting thier selves ...because JESUS already suffer and crucified for us... i'm right..?

  • this makes even less sense than chocolate eggs and bunnies...
