The wearable artificial kidney concept of Nanodialysis is a based on a miniature dialysis machine using nanosorbents that regenerate the dialysate fluid (300 ml) continuously. Hereby the device is small, lightweight and wearable. The device offers a 24 hrs/day dialysis treatment for renal patients while being mobile and allows patient a normal life. The device is currently (2011) in engineering phase being tested in-vitro. First animal trials are planned for 2012. The blood lines, blood pump and dialyzer filter are in red. The sorbent unit holding the nanosorbents is in blue. The dialysate is being circulated with a second pump unit.
