DJ Klock - Theme

2007 Update - In a very sad turn of events Dj Klock passed away in April 2007. RIP to one of the most interesting artists to come out of Japan. He will be sorely missed.

This is a video for a song called 'Theme' from the new DJ Klock album, called 'San'. The video was animated and directed by Kenji Hirata, of the Barnstormers graffiti crew.
'San' is out now in Japan, on Clockwise Recs, and will be out this autumn on Ropeadope Records in the US.
Look out for another video from this album, also directed by a member of the Barnstormers crew, and for a special feature about DJ Klock and his work on www.spinscience.org.uk.

The delightful artwork of Kenji Hirata. Google him... very much worth experiencing. You will see elements of his paintings in the felt animation he's done here. I do not know his process, but perhaps he cuts and lays out felt forms, and then paints from those felt compositions. Anyway, my wife is an elementary school art teacher, and a damned good one. I will show her this vid, and I imagine many fresh lesson plans for her students will come of it.
