Absentee voting on November 1, 2008 was crowded in at least two polling places according to voters I talked to. Brian in Kansas City, MO told the story of trying to vote with his wife today since they were due to fly out of town after learning that his father in law just died this morning. They arrived at the polls well over 2 hours before closing, but were turned away, as were about 40 other people in line. The polling place did not stay open for voters in line. I live 7 minutes from where he stands, but I am in Kansas--with early voting--I voted a week before election day. I feel bad for them to want to vote and have a personnal loss prevent that. Missouri get early voting.

It shouldn't have to be so hard.
Voting is a two-step process: you register, you vote.
If he can't be there, they should give him an absentee ballot without a second thought.
