This is a small wood in the centre of Malham, the Yorkshire Dales, and this is a one-legged rook looking rather sad and miserable and damp. I spent an hour with this bird and I wish I had now spent the whole day in its company. I threw some brazil nuts and wild bird seed down and when I moved away it flew down and to where the brazil nuts were beneath a tree.
This was a trip organised by the Rochdale Field Naturalists Society although as a disclaimer I do not represent the RFNS in any way and I am not really a member. That is the red tape over with. Date: 13 August 2011.
