Phase 5 of Medieval Battles: Melee

Medieval Battles is a real-time table-top game created and run since 1987 by Professor Allen Lee Hamilton of St. Phillips College in San Antonio. Medieval Battles employs thousands of tiny hand-painted miniatures in daily mock-battles, with encounters lasting usually from two to three hours.

Iconic and individual armies, ranging from the claymore-wielding Scots of the highlands to the highly mobile and cavalry heavy Byzantines, go to war on an ever changing landscape. Due to high demand, Medieval Battles has also adapted and created rules for fantasy-figures and armies, such as the ruthless orcs, stout dwarves, woodland elves, who go to war with the aid of dragons, giants, and wizards.

Designed and tuned for players ages 9 and up, Medieval Battles employs factor multiplication, real-time tactical strategy, and ruler measuring in what has become a refined learning experience that is cloaked in fast-paced excitement. The class is separated into 3 distinct levels: beginners, masters, and ultimately battle lords. Each class level has specialized rules to accommodate players of all skill levels. Using the risk of dice rolling combat, every encounter is infinitely different and as dynamic as the players are.

Presently, Medieval Battles is only taught and played at San Antonio Academy's "Summer at the Academy" in the months of June and July. Over the last 23 years, Medieval Battles has become the most popular offering at the summer camp, and has grown to supply the demand; Professor Hamilton's sons, Clinton and Grayson, have started their own sections of the class.

Medieval Battles is still looking to grow further, with franchise opportunities possible in other cities. If you are interested in hosting a section at your school for a week in an after-school program or summer program in either San Antonio or Austin, TX, reach us with the contact information for more details.
