4. With this balance of being fully Orthodox and fully Catholic, some people believe the Eastern Catholic Churches are a bridge for unity between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches. They say unity is the main purpose of the Eastern Catholic Churches, and a failure to bring about full unity means the Eastern Catholic experiment was a failure. Would you shed some light on this position?

I am a Roman Catholic. It's not possible right now but I would love to attend an Eastern Rite [Mass]. I think's it's know as the Divine Liturgy.

Would I feel welcome and what happens at Communion?

I hope that you would be welcomed! There's no reason to believe you wouldn't be. Many Eastern Catholic parishes are known for their hospitality.

Communion is given to properly disposed Catholics or Orthodox in a state of grace who present themselves for it, in accordance w/ canon law. It is comingled in the chalice and given on a golden spoon. The priest prays for you by name when communing you. You don't respond after or bow before. I hope you're able to visit an Eastern Catholic liturgy soon!

Amazing. I am an Orthodox Christian, and have always found it distressing that on both sides there is a tendency to make eternal a tragic division that as Fr. Maximos says we must regard as temporary. So many chauvinisms come into play here. On the other hand it won't be easy. We have to iron out issues of authority and jurisdiction and that is never easy. There will have to be give and take on both sides. But I am glad for people like Fr. Maximos and Fr. Abbot Nicholas. Great videos!

These Eastern Catholic Churches are indeed the unity of the spirit of the love of Christ that the both churches need.

I love Orthodox Christianity in the same way that I love the Roman Catholicism from which I am baptised into. After all we are both members of SACRAMENTAL and APOSTOLIC churches. Not much of a leisure for all...

@missgreeneyes56 - By the way, we call the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Divine Liturgy. In fact, in the catacombs in Rome there are overwhelming archeological evidence that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was first done in Greek in the fashion of the Divine Liturgy be they the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom or Saint Basil the Great, it was all done in Greek when the TRUE FAITH first came to Rome. Therefore, we owe a great deal to the Easterners before the unfortunate rift in 1054.

Wonderfully succinct considering the subtlety of the divide. I believe the division between Christianity and the other world religions is equally symptomatic of disunity. This disease is an amalgamation of "Religious Hubris" and requires an evolution in how we perceive spirituality and organisation. God Bless Truth Guide

This is a very inspiring video! I'm grateful for the words and wisdom of Fr. Maximos. Only the love of Christ can unite us. If we focus on Christ then all barriers disappear. May the Lord continue to bless you Catherine.

I cannot help but thank God for my Catholic faith. The Church has so many expressions of giving glory to God. God Bless us all.

And I have one question for Uniates. How can you be in communion with Rome? They have basic dogmatic differences from you, and your dogmas are identical to Orthodox dogmas. It is illogical to think that a Church with incorrect beliefs, even according to you, is more right than a Church that has the exact same beliefs as you. Plus, in many cases, Uniates were simply Orthodox Christians that were forced to accept the Pope by zealous Catholic missionaries.

I agree that the dissunion must be viewed as temporary, but the Western Church must realize that their excessive papism was not the way things werked before the schism. We Orthodox are blamed for the schism by many Catholics, but what were we supposed to do? The Pope had always been First Among Equals, with no more power than any other Patriarch. We could not sit by and watch the Patriarch of the West take more power, and take power over us.
