Intel x25-v 40GB (gen 2) w/ TRIM and 4GB gskill memory upgrades. Found this to be the best for the little guy. All quality parts and can be found at newegg, they charge about $10 more for the SSD, but the return/refund/exchange policy is great and newegg is fast with shipping (unlike Lenovo taking a month or so to ship a computer). Enjoy!

  • thanx for the video

i have the same machine i just wanna ask

is there a big difference in the performance between the SDD and HDD , Out of 10 how much you give each one ?

because the mine sucks and has sluggish performance when i open many firfox tabs even though i have 4 gig of RAM

    are you using 32bit or 64bit ?

  • Respond to this video... there is a difference... night and day actually (especially on the x100e). the processor is slow as is, the last thing you should have to wait on is your hdd. If you get an ssd, even the little intel 40gb, you will noticeably see a difference in how your machine runs.... i'm using windows 7 professional x32.

  • U don't hear a HDD spin up or click anymore, but that's it. You still have a fan, but that only runs when watching video.

I've had this machine for 6 months now and only wish it had an intel processor (i3, or i5), b/c the amd neo processor gets too hot when watching video. If lenovo dumps amd in the future, then I'll buy another as a replacement. B/C of the overheating issue, I refuse to watch any video on this thinkpad

  • I installed win7 pro as a new install, but you can search for hdd clone software if you want to keep the original OS

  • @ waluum:

I own the solo core model and I havn't attemped to run photoshop CS4 or CS5 on it and I might never try it out on my x100e. It may run, but as soon as you try to work with a large file or apply a filter, prepare to wait.

PS will run on anything, but working with files is another story. You need horsepower for that.

  • Hi, how is the performance with 4gb ram and the ssd? im curious as im planning to purchase my x100e soon. Thanks for your help!

  • @jstyleent The x100e paired with 4GB ram and SSD performs very well, I love it, love it, love it. If all you are doing is office, internet, and music, and other basic to medium tasks, this thing rocks. If you think you will be playing modern warfare 2 or using photoshop, you will be disappointed (heavy tasks). This thing isn't build for that level of computing.

  • @yhp99 You can use CS5, but I only use it when I absolutely need it. I can feel the stress I'm putting on my machine when I do anything heavy on my X100e. Besides, why would you punish yourself by doing graphic work on such a small machine?

  • @photoflix291

Hi. Question... how did you install an OS into your new SSD? I ask cuz the x100e doesnt have a CDROM drive. I really want to upgrade to an SSD myself for my x100e that i just got. Thanks.

  • Hi, how is the noise after you made these upgrades?
