Julia's husband revealed that he was HIV-positive when Julia shared news that she was pregnant in 1989. Julia tested positive soon afterward, but thankfully their son was not born with HIV. Julia fights the lingering stigma surrounding HIV in the Hispanic community of Miami by encouraging all women to know their status so that they can control their bodies, their health, the health of their families and their lives. If I had HIV/AIDS I wouldn't tell anyone not because I'd be a ashamed but because It's none of their business. Whatever happened to privacy laws?
