We have plenty of capacity in this country. Single payer will free up capacity by decreasing the amount of time that doctors have to spend themselves on billing and will allow them to hire more nurses and less billing clerks. Capacity is not a reason to deny people care.
We ALREADY have more machines. We ALREADY spend 5/3s of what Canadians spend. We don't need to spend more money on healthcare, or print more money. We just need to redirect what we're already spending and increase efficiency.
First off, where are we going to get more doctors per capita? We can't just buy doctors and people have a hard enough time scheduling appointments with physicians anyway. They're only adding a greater strain on current doctors through this plan
Also, 5/3s what the Canadians spend? More machines? We're in a financial crisis and you just want them to print out more money we don't have? Hasn't Obama debted this country enough?
This piece is misleading. What determines wait times and access to care isn't who's running it (govt vs private insurance) - its how much money is going to health care. If we spend 5/3 what the Canadians do on health care, and have more doctors per capita, more machines, etc. then our waits will be shorter.
Single payer in this country would be more like Medicare than the insurance that the Canadians have.
But single payer, unfortunately, is not what many deomocrats support!
