Azureus Rising lore in 1 minute:

Right after the Cold War between Steampunk and Cyberpunk, Miku Hatsune's first cousin twice removed decided to tech up his already virtual body, learn martial arts from old Bruce Lee movies, and shoot a gun without flying backwards in the process.

This was all to avenge humanity - which other machines decided to get rid of - by taking out his own kind, not realizing it was all a trial run for the new MMO S5 League. So much for the fourth wall.
