Ray Charles' vocals were taken from concert tapes recorded in England & Germany in the mid-1970's. These were soundboard recordings and the orchestra tracks sounded poorly. The vocals were mixed above the instruments, and sound engineers were able to save them and mix them. The tapes were discovered after Ray's death.

Instrumentation recorded in Los Angeles, CA. February through May, 2006.

This recording taken from the 2006 CD "Ray Charles + The Count Basie Orchestra:Ray Sings, Basie Swings"

  • Not sure who it is. I've seen that pic before. Maybe on the same tribute site. Look carefully and you can tell it doesn't really look like him. Probably a Ray Charles impersonator.

  • I can see the difference now. I didn't catch that at the time. I'm afraid it's going have to stay in there. I don't want to take it down an redo it since this clip has more hits on it than any of my others.

    Thanks for pointing that out,

    Mike

  • Unfortunately the picture at 3:26 is not Ray Charles.

  • O.K., since I carefully select photos for my videos, who is it then? The photo came from a Ray Charles tribute website. Just asking.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I never imagined this song in this style, but now that I've heard it I can't imagine it not being done this way, or by someone else as wonderful as Ray... this is a bit of Heaven

    right here on earth.
