Nothing Else Matters ~ Ch. 8

A warning to you guys. Short and boring chapter. Seriously.

(Rebecca's POV)
Had someone hurt me? Why would he think that? Of course not. "No, no. no one hurt me," I told him. "I-" The roar of thunder interrupted me and I screamed, hugging Kevin tight. And the tears came unwillingly.
"Are you scared of lightning?" he whispered in my ear.
His breath on my neck gave me chills but I choked out, "Y-yes."

"There's no need to be afraid. Lightning won't hurt you. It doesn't hurt anyone." I cried more at his last words. He was so naïve.
"Yes it does," I shakily said. "Yes it does." We were silent for a minute and Kevin's arms held me tighter to his chest. His shirt was soaking up my continuous tears.
"I'm right here. I'm not going to let anything or anyone hurt you. I promise."

And I believed him. I don't know if it was his confident voice, his strong arms holding me close, or the warmth of his words but I believed Kevin. Even with the dream revolving in my head, I trusted what he had just said. But something else came to mind and not even Kevin could help. My sobs grew louder and he started to rub my back, trying to get me to calm down.

I looked up and stared into his eyes. "I'm sorry," I said quietly.
"No need to be sorry," he softly said. "It's alright to be scared. Just remember, you've got me to talk to. I'll always be here." His words were so comforting and warm, like a lullaby in my ear.

(Kevin's POV)
I meant every word I said, even if I sounded a bit too eager to help. It kinda seemed like it was working though. Rebecca's crying was very quiet now and there were less tears. I was gently rubbing her back and I started to stroke her hair. Then a song came into my mind and it's lyrics were perfect:
"You know when the sun forgets to shine
I'll be there to hold you through the night"

After a while, I didn't feel any new tears and everything was silent. Had Rebecca fallen asleep? I leaned away to look at her face and sure enough, she was sleeping. Even after all the crying, she looked so peaceful and perfect. I had to ask her out. I just had to.

I carefully shifted over and laid Rebecca on my bed. I brought the blanket up to her shoulder. I pushed her bangs out of her face and caressed her cheek. I knew that if I didn't ask her out soon, someone else would and it would break me if she accepted. I stood up, grabbed another blanket, and walked across the room to the couch. (AN: yes, he has a couch in his room. don't ask questions! just read!)

I laid down and looked at her, wondering if she was telling me the truth. It seemed like it wasn't just the lightning that made her break down into sobbing. Something else was bothering her. I could tell. But what?

I think Susan was either her best friend,or sister. Susan was struck my lightning and died on the spot. And Rebecca was there to witness the whole thing. :( Poor her!
