I always liked Sleater-Kinney, but IMO Helium was one of the greatest Indie bands of the 90's. Check out "The Dirt of Luck" if you're into Mary's songs.

my fav band that inspired me 10yrs ago is SDRE,& supposedly the frontman, Jeremy Enigk, taught Carrie Brownstein^(frontwoman up there) how to play guitar. I must say I've always been a pretty big fan of her work in general(Sleater-Kinney). The drummer is great, so is the bass keys and 2nd Guitarist. They are all pretty damn pro!
